Our PhilosophyWe offer a personal approach to patients with neurosurgical problems. The doctors and nurses of NYC Neurosurgery are committed to the highest quality patient care in a compassionate environment. Our personalized approach begins in the office during the time of initial consultation. The office visit includes review of X-rays, MRI and CT scans with review of history and physical examination. The goal of Dr. Elowitz is to design a customized treatment plan for each patient based on their needs. We are strong advocates of patient education and respect the patient's role in the decision making process. If surgery is indicated we fully discuss the procedure, alternatives and potential risks. In general, we have a conservative approach to spinal problems. In the absence of an acute, emergent situation we will usually recommend an adequate trial of non-operative treatment before seriously considering surgery. For patients who require surgery we practice state-of-the-art techniques at NYC Neurosurgery. The best long-term patient outcomes are our goal. Often this involves using newer, minimally-invasive surgical techniques for spinal conditions. We frequently employ computerized stereotactic image-guided surgery. We understand that planning surgery is very stressful for the patient and their family. Our nurse clinician, Nancy Conroy R.N., works to ensure that patients are fully educated about their diagnosis, surgery and post-operative course. Patient questions and concerns are welcomed and encouraged. The NYC Neurosurgery team strongly believes that patients who are educated and realistic about their surgical treatment achieve the most optimal results. In January 2010, Dr. Elowitz joined the nationally recognized Department of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The US News and World Report: America's Best Hospitals survey for 2009-2010 has ranked NewYork-Presbyterian as having the #5 Neurology and Neurosurgery program in the nation, and the #1 program in New York. As a member of the Weill Cornell Spine Center, Dr. Elowitz continues to help advance the field of minimally invasive spinal surgery. His aim is always to assure state-of-the-art care with individual attention to each patient’s unique needs. |
